What is a Virgin?
- It is a term we lovingly use for those who have never experienced “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” in a live setting.
What if I have seen it a million times at home, though?
- NOPE. Watching the film on your own is a different animal. While it can be it’s own delightful experience, it does not equate to a live screening.
What if I’ve seen the stage show the film is based on? Do I still count as a Virgin?
- Yes! The Rocky Horror Picture Show experience is much different from the live musical! Even though they are similar, they are not the same!
What is a Virgin Sacrifice, and should I be worried?
- “Virgin Sacrifice” is a phrase we use when we (metaphorically) *pop* the virgins’ cherries for their first time seeing the movie live in an interactive setting.
- The “Sacrifice ” usually entails a game or silly act that typically has prizes for the winner(s).
Should you be worried?
- No. You will never be forced to do anything you don’t wish to do. We are all about consent at The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Participate if you’d like.
- Typically only people over the age of 18 can participate in the games/acts. Occasionally, there may be a “G” featured sacrifice that all can participate in, though it’s not often.
What is a Survival Kit?
- A Survival Kit, also known as a prop kit or prop bag, is a bag packed with various items that can be used throughout the film to enhance your immersive experience.
- These items are used at certain times in the movie.
- Everyone is encouraged to purchase a Survival Kit for $3 at our merch table! You can also bring your own stuff! Details on that below.
When/How/Where am I even supposed to use the items in the Survival Kit?!
- Balloon: snap during Science Fiction Double Feature with the line “When Worlds Collide”
- Rice: Thrown during the beginning of wedding scene at the start of the film. (backwards for those in the front row, side to side for those in any rows behind front row)
- Newspaper: Put it over your head after Janet exits the car to shield yourself from…
- Squirt Guns: Use your squirt gun to simulate the storm Brad and Janet travel through once they leave the car. Squirt guns are not provided in our kits but feel free to bring your own! NO SUPER SOAKERS ALLOWED!
- Glow Stick: Wave in the air when Brad and Janet sing “There’s A Light”- don’t forget to snap it first!
- Rubber Glove: Snap when Frank snaps his gloves during Lab Scene!
- Noisemaker: During the creation scene when the party guests applaud Frank N Furter
- Confetti: Thrown, much like the rice earlier, during Frank and Rocky’s “wedding” at the end of creation scene. (Not provided, I usually just tear up my newspaper to use as confetti)
- Toilet Paper: Throw it when Brad yells, “Great Scott!” (but please throw carefully as to not damage our venue)
- Party Hat: Put this on when Frank puts his on to celebrate Rocky’s birthday during dinner (not provided, bring your own)
- Toast: When Frank proposes “a toast” during dinner throw it in the air. (Not provided, bring your own. DO NOT BUTTER)
- Paper Plates: When Frank sends all the dishes flying as he pulls the tablecloth off at the end of dinner, you can stimulate the same with the paper plates!
- Bell: When Frank sings “Did ya hear a bell ring?” during “Planet Schmanet Janet”, let ’em ring! (Not provided)
- Cards: Toss out when Frank sings, “Cards for sorrow, cards for pain” during the song , “I’m Going Home”
- Alternate Prop Use: Some audience members choose to throw toilet paper during Rocky’s unwrapping in creation scene. Rice can alternatively be thrown during the song “Planet Schmanet Janet” every time Frank says “Janet Weiss” the audience says “Did you say rice?” and throws it then. We say bring enough to do both!
