What is it that we do, exactly?

A Rocky Horror shadow cast is a live performance of the cult classic film “The Rocky Horror Picture Show”, in which the performers act out the movie while the film is projected on a screen behind us. Performers dress in costume and act out the scenes alongside the film’s characters, sometimes even adding our own twists and interpretations. We strive to create an interactive experience for our audience. Call backs are highly encouraged!

What is The Rocky Horror Picture Show?

“The Rocky Horror Picture Show” is a cult classic musical-comedy film that combines elements of horror, science fiction, and campy humor. Released in 1975, it has since gained a massive following with its interactive screenings and midnight showings, encouraging audience participation.

The story revolves around Brad Majors and Janet Weiss, a young engaged couple who find themselves stranded on a rainy night after their car breaks down. They seek help at a nearby castle and are welcomed by the eccentric and flamboyant Dr. Frank-N-Furter, a self-proclaimed “sweet transvestite from Transsexual, Transylvania.

Although this film is rated R, it’s actually quite tame for today’s society, giving it more of a PG13 aura.

Throughout the movie, the audience is encouraged to participate by shouting lines, dressing up, and using props during specific scenes. This interactive experience has become a significant part of the film’s enduring appeal and has created a sense of community among its fans.

“The Rocky Horror Picture Show” has become a cultural phenomenon, celebrated for its over-the-top performances, catchy songs like “Time Warp” and “Sweet Transvestite,” and its embrace of individuality and self-expression. It continues to captivate audiences worldwide, serving as a testament to the power of acceptance and the celebration of one’s unique identity.

Tips For Virgins

What even is a Rocky Horror Virgin?

  • Simply put, it is someone that has never seen the movie in a theater/venue with a live shadow cast before.

What if I have seen it a million times at home, though?

  • Still doesn’t count!

What if I’ve seen the Rocky Horror Show live before? Do I still count as a Virgin?

  • Yes! The Rocky Horror Picture Show experience is much different from the live musical! Even though they are similar, they are not the same!

What is a Virgin Sacrifice, and should I be worried?

  • A Virgin Sacrifice is a phrase we use when we (metaphorically) *pop* the virgins’ cherries for their first time seeing the movie live with a shadow cast.
  • The “Sacrifice ” usually entails a game or silly act that typically has prizes for the winner(s).
  • Should you be worried? No. You will never be forced to do anything you don’t wish to do. We are all about consent at The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Participate if you’d like.
  • Typically only people over the age of 18 can participate in the games/acts. Occasionally, there may be a g featured sacrifice that all can participate in, though it’s not often.

What is a Survival Kit?

  • A Survival Kit, also known as a prop kit or prop bag, is a bag packed with various items that can be used throughout the film to enhance your immersive experience.
  • These items are used at certain times in the movie.
  • Everyone is encouraged to purchase a Survival Kit for $3 at our merch table!

When/How/Where am I even supposed to use the items in the Survival Kit?!

  • Rice: thrown during the beginning of wedding scene
  • Newspaper: put it over your head after Janet exits the car
  • Glow Stick: wave during “There’s A Light”- don’t forget to snap it first!
  • Noisemaker: at the end of creation scene when everyone is applauding
  • Toilet Paper: throw it when Brad yells, “Great Scott!” (but please throw carefully as to not damage our venue)
  • Paper Plates: throw into the air when Frank rips the tablecloth off the dinner table
  • Cards: toss out when Frank sings, “Cards for sorrow, cards for pain” during the song , “I’m Going Home”
